Top 100 Most Subscribed UK Youtubers: August 2011

I figured it was about time for a new Top 100 Most Subscribed UK Youtubers list because the old one was a bit out of date. Had to update it to reflect Charlie McDonnell's getting his one millionth subscriber and show the changes that have occurred since last October.

As always there is a lot of movement on the chart with some moving up and others dropping off to be replaced by newer channels. I always point out that you need to look beyond the Top 10 and scour the choices offered by those in the middle and the new ones debuting towards the bottom. It is getting more difficult to make the top 100 in the United Kingdom as you need at least 80K subs when just last year you could be on the list with only 40K.

Here is the list of those UK YouTube channels with the highest number of subscribers. Leading the way is Charlie McDonnell with his charlieissocoollike of course. Actually, the first 4 are all on the worldwide Top 100 Most Subscribed List.

1. charlieissocoollike - Charlie McDonnell broke the one million subscriber mark recently and he'll probably add more because of his show at VidCon 2011 (he dropped his trousers if you haven't seen it) and Charlie has about a 340K lead on the next highest Youtube channel in the UK. Charlie has another new channel that's is getting lots of subs called "charlieissoboredlike" which currently sits at number 70 on the list and will probably be much higher by the time this list next gets updated.

2. bubzbeauty - Lindy's main channel is growing by leaps and bounds. She added about 300K new subs since this list was last updated and she's the 2nd most subbed UK youtuber and, of course, also the most followed makeup guru. She just zipped past 300K subs on her 2nd channel called bubbiosity where she does random skits and vlogs.

3. BlueXephos - BlueXephos is new to the Top 10 and the channel is by Lewis (Xephos) and Simon (Honeydew). They take you through several different video games step by step with a bit of humour, so they have been garnering massive subs. Do you think they might pose a threat to Charlie McDonnell's top status? Not yet I think, but if they keep getting numbers like they have they might just be the ones to knock him out as the most subbed in the UK.

4. UKFDubstep - Wall to wall dubstep. In case you don't know what "dubstep" is (how long have you been under that rock?) it is a genre of electronic dance music that started around the area of south London. This channel had a mere 123,337 subscribers last October and now UKFDubstep's sub base has exploded growing 5 times as large to 639K.

5. TopGear - Cars, motorcycles and all things mechanical is what you will find on TopGear channel. They've grown their subscriber list from 373K to 575K although they've slipped from 4th most UK subbed to 5th (still not too shabby). You can also find more about them at their website topgear.com/uk/.

6. simonscat - I love Simon's Cat! It's simple animation (you can do it too). Just get a Youtube channel and upload funny animation and you will be surprised at the response. The channel has added about 200,000 new subscribers since Oct 2010 and now sits at 478K and will likely hit 500,000 subscribers shortly.

7. panacea81 is Lauren Luke who remains one of the top UK make-up gurus. Check out her book called Lauren Luke and her personal blog: About Lauren Luke.

8. TotalHalibut - was sitting in 16th spot last October but increased their base from 148,000 to 412K (passing Nerimon in the process). The channel does various games with commentary by the one and only Total Biscuit aka John Bain.

9. nerimon - Mr Alex Day's vlog where he gets to ramble on about his life. Humourous and sometimes enlightening. Alex and Charlie McDonnell are partners in crime on several projects as well as a another channel.

10. BBCWorldwide - From the national television we have BBCWorldwide which currently has over 5,000 videos uploaded from different TV shows. Everything from Fawlty Towers to dinosaurs, you will find great fare on this channel.

That's the Top 10 for the United Kingdom, but there are a LOT of other equally good or better channels the further down the list.

Biggest moves up the list: UKFDrumand Bass jumped 35 spots almost to the Top 10 by adding over 250K new subscribers since last October. Impressive numbers. The largest jump up the list was by glyphmedia who went from number 98 on the last list to number 35 on this one. They increased their sub base by 113,000.

Biggest moves down the list: Minus 50 spots for BritainsSoTalented! WTH happened there? I guess XFactor and the other shows have swamped the viewer base for this channel and they actually lost 800 subscribers since Oct 2010. Another big drop was TheRealParis who slipped from 52 to 94th position and looks to be heading off the list shortly. A couple of the British girls I like watching are dropping in the ranks too. mememolly must be too busy working with RocketBoom and her personal channel dropped 31 spots. Also, Katers17 is vlogging daily on her 2nd channel (katersoneseven) and her first channel has slipped a bit losing 19 positions and sitting at number 76 overall.

All together there are about thirty new additions to the Top 100 Youtubers (UK Edition) which should keep you busy for a while trying to check them all out. They are spread out pretty fairly throughout the list with 11 new channels listed from 76-100. There are some channels that are not "new" but I have seen listed in other countries. I don't like seeing it when channels try to game the system by switching their country of origin to get awards and to try to get noticed in other areas. But most are just new channels. Check them out and report back. Let me know if you find any really good channels because I want to try to promote channels with smaller subscriber bases.

That is the list for the United Kingdom as of August, 2011. I'll make sure I get it updated each month and posted on Bradshaw's Blog. I will try to get this list updated month to month.

When I last did this list in October 2010, it took 44K subscribers to break into the Top 100 and and as you can see that number has jumped up to almost 80,000 before you are in the Top 100 Most Subscribed Youtubers List. Charlie McDonnell has the only UK channel with more than one million subscribers (there are about 43 Youtube channels worldwide with at least 1,000,000 subs) but I think there are some in the UK who are hot on charlieissocoollike's heels and will break that number shortly.
