Just noticed that Jenna Marbles has passed Ray William Johnson on the All Time Most Subscribed list with a massive 8,758,105 total to Ray's 8,690,622 subscriber count. Although you probably shouldn't put a lot of weight into subscribers numbers when you're comparing those Youtube channels floating around in the Top 100, this is actually quite an achievement for Jenna as her number of subscribers has exploded in the last year and a half or so. Ray William Johnson, of =3, YourFavoriteMartian and Runaway Planet fame was running away with the title of "Most Subscribed on Youtube" for quite a while until his recent troubles (of which I'll be blogging about shortly) and both Jenna Marbles and Ray William Johnson are getting smoked by Ian Hecox and Anthony Padilla of Smosh , and their channel leads the way, closing in on ten million subscribers, a number which they should easily surpass before the month is out. The Good Morning America Interview But this is a...

I just checked Youtube stats to see how the Top Ten Youtubers have fared with the potential loss of subscribers given the recent announcement that Youtube would be removing inactive and closed accounts from the total number of subscribers each channel has and it's not pretty. The totals shown courtesy of Top 100 on VidStatsX , which if you go to their website you will find out how many subscribers the top 100 lost - although VidStatsX's numbers update daily. Taking a quick look at the stats it looks like the channel that was hardest hit was machinima who lost close to 150,000 subscribers followed by Ray William Johnson who was hit with a loss of 138,629 as well as nigahiga who lost 125,169 subs. If you look at the Top 100 list everyone on it lost a portion of their subscriber base . I obviously don't know if your own channel has suffered a loss or not but the website does track the Top 2000 Youtube channel fairly accurately with the lowest listed having 63,500 subscri...

Not a bad way to ring in the new year, 2012 with 5,000,000 subs right? If RayWilliamJohnson continues gettings subs like he has been doing all through 2011, he will hit the five million subscriber mark sometime before Christmas 2011 or New Years at the latest. You might have heard that Ray passed Nigahiga as the most subscribed channel on Youtube in late June 2011 (something I predicted would happen back in November 2010 in this blog post ) and two weeks alter his Equals 3 channel passed 4 million subs. Here he is along with a number of familiar faces celebrating at VidCon and going to a party put together in his honor by Maker Studios . So, now that he's number one and has 4,000,000 subscribers how long will it be before Ray hits the five million mark? He's already a third of the way there. At last count, his main channel has 4,376,533 subscribers. And that's not all. His two other channels, Yourfavoritemartian has 1,379,341 subs and his 3rd channel, Breaking...

Picture from 2007 courtesy of Wayback Machine What were you doing in August 2007? Were you even on Youtube either as someone who watched the videos of others or were you one of the few who uploaded clips and got listed in this Top 100 from August 5, 2007? Look at the numbers these people had just 4 short years ago and compare them with the millions of subscribers that the Top 100 Most Subscribed have today and you can see the astounding growth this website has generated. How many of these channels do you remember and how many are still actively uploading videos? Each channel can still be found by the links provided unless they have been closed which is the case for some of them. Others just have not been updated in years. 1 smosh 148,992 2 lonelygirl15 97,821 3 esmeedenters 70,844 4 miaarose 68,787 5 WilliamSledd 66,743 6 HappySlip 62,098 7 thewinekone 59,781 8 LisaNova 59,764 9 CBS 57,144 10 BaratsAndBereta 54,542 11 JamesNintendoNerd 54,114 12 B...

So THIS is what Ryan Higa has been working on! Below is the trailer for Agents of Secret Stuff which is scheduled to be released November 24, 2010. I need to see more before offering an assessment, but parts of it look funny from what you see here. Ryan Higa is cast as a super-secret agent given the task of guarding the incredibly lovely Arden Cho from some fiendish bad guys, led by HiImRawn it would look like. Wong Fu Productions is credited with directing this 40 minute epic that will premiere on the Nigahiga channel. They are also listed along with Ryan as co-writers and co-producers and the motion graphics are the work of Derrick Lee of rikognition . The music is very ably done by George Shaw who is a rising musician/composer in Hollywood. Check out his website for more about him and for some samples of his music: georgeshawmusic.com . Ass Vs Syns An interesting play on the word assassins? Ass ( A gents of S ecret S tuff) vs Syns ( S ociety I nvolving N ot-so-good S t...

Always loved this song originally by Stevie Wonder that MysteryGuitarMan does on the kazoo among other instruments. The song is called Sir Duke and it was released by Stevie Wonder in 1976 as part of his album Songs In The Key Of Life . Loving MGM's version using pretty much only a kazoo and guitar. Also, those red MysteryGuitarMan t-shirts look so awesome in the video. It's always interesting to see how he goes about making these very creative videos with his green screen which you see at the end. Plus, if you missed MGM doing his collab with Ian and Anthony from Smosh , you need to check it out. And yes, that guy at the end was freddiew in a cameo.

One of the most creative people on Youtube right now is MysteryGuitarMan . Pick just about any of MGM's videos and you will be saying "How the hell did he do that?" Like the title of this post says, MysteryGuitarman's videos are all the same: awesome. I've been subbed to him since he first elbowed his way onto the Top 100 a while back and watched his rise up the charts and right now he has just passed the 1.5 million subscriber mark which is pretty sweet - 2 million is just around the corner. Not only is MGM creative, but he is also very prolific, pumping out new videos all the time. What I also like to point out is that his videos are visual interesting, but the music is great too. He routinely gets about 17K new subscribers each week (how many youtubers wish they had 17,000 subscribers? Show of hands?) and is in 6th spot of all Youtubers. He has a long way to go if he is going to catch 5th place Smosh who are about 60,000 subs away from the 2 million subs...

The tabulations are done, and the results are in. According to Rhett&Link 's website, the winners are: Team Beard! Congrats to Wheezy Waiter and his team of beardlovers who dethroned last year's champs, Shay Carl and the Shaytards Rebellionites. It turned out to be super-close. According to Rhett&Link, the number of Supernotes submitted by Team Beard was 18 less than Shay's team, although Wheezy's bunch won by a fair margin. Below are the full results: Rank Team 1 WheezyWaiter (Team Beard) 2 ShayCarl (ShayTard Rebellionites) 3 Shane Dawson (Team Shane) 4 LiveLavaLive (Project LavaNote) 5 MysteryGuitarMan (Team MGM) 6 Meekakitty (Team Stache) 7 VlogBrothers (Team Nerd) ) 8 iJustine (Team iJ) 9 RhettandLink (Team Mythical Beast) 10 Smosh (Team Smosh) 11 Charles & Alli (Team CTFxC) 12 DeStorm (Team DeStorm) 13 David Choi (Team D-Choi) 14 Brittani Louise Taylor (Team BLT) 15 WhatTheBuck?! I don't know about you, but as a regular viewer of TheWillofDC 's Winners & Losers I like how Will did this video rather than his other recent videos with the green screen. That said, there were some interesting developments in the rankings of the Top 100 Youtubers this week and Will lets us know what's what. The big winner this past week was DieAussenseiter a German YouTube channel that moved up from 80th to 77th place on the overall Top 100. "DieAussenseiter" translates into english as "The Outsider". This does show the growth of the international scope of YouTube and other channels using languages other than primarily English should take heart and receive some motivation to keep working to make more videos and channels in their native languages - there are audiences in every country that want great content in their own language. Below is a Halloween video from DieAussenseiter. DieAussenseiter is made up of two German brothers: Alexander ...

Ew, Kiwi remnants all over the place! The Annoying Orange gets a visit from a New Zealand kiwi (actually it's Kevin Brueck ) who develops a severe case of the hiccups and well, you know the rest. The bananas are played by Ian and Anthony from Smosh and the hot and sexy passion fruit is iJustine . Here are the outtakes from "Exploding Orange".

I'm a big fan of the Shaytards and look forward to watching the next video each day and I also usually leave a comment and thumbs up because I think they have one of the better YouTube channels on the website. I don't like the trolling that goes on from time to time from commentators who think that Shay and his family are somehow "sellouts" because they do some promotion work, like the Kia Soul thing. Here's the video: Basically, what Shay, Smosh and Lisa Nova are doing is trying to help promote other lesser-known youtubers with the help of Kia. No big deal. It's a good idea and I've checked out some of the people promoted in the video and subbed to a couple. Some viewers have a bit of trouble dealing with bigger youtubers like Shay getting paid to do this kind of thing and they are entitled to their opinion, but then they go and slam Shay in the comments section yelling that he is somehow a sellout etc. Not true. The reason he and others do this Yo...

There's an article out stating that in all likelihood, at least 10 youtubers are raking in a minimum of $100,000 a year. Sounds sweet right? Below is the list of 10 YouTube Stars and their estimated yearly income from being in the YouTube Partnership Program. 10. Natalie Tran - communitychannel - $101,000 9. The Young Turks – The Young Turks - $112,000 8. Smosh – smosh - $113,000 7. Mediocre Films – MediocreFilms - $116,000 6. Shay Carl – Shaytards - $140,000 5. Fred – Fred - $146,000 4. Ryan Higa – nigahiga - $151,000 3. Philip DeFranco – sxephil - $181,000 2. The Annoying Orange – realannoyingorange - $288,000 1. Shane Dawson – shanedawsontv - $315,000 Now I just watched Phil DeFranco's latest Vloggity and he thinks there are several holes in the article. Like the fact that Ray William Johnson isn't even on the list. Ray's show, equals 3 gets about 25 million views a month and he's been getting new subscribers at an almost unbeliev...

Finally! Alli Speed's "Chubby Bunny Challenge" from VidCon is up! The rules: stuff marshmallows into your mouth and try to say the words "Chubby Bunny". If you fail - you're out. Contestants: Olga Kay KeepTheHeat DeStorm Smosh (both Ian & Anthony) PrankvsPrank LasVegasBarbie (um, yes please) and Alli (as Tay Zonday) Who did you think was going to win? I was surprised Alli got out so quickly lol. Congrats to Anthony from Smosh who proved once again he has a BIG mouth. Bonus Round: The Really BIG Marshmallows! Them some big ass marshmallows! Before watching - will Anthony prove himself the Chubby Bunny champion and repeat by destroying all pretenders to his title? I'm hoping the hot girl from PrankvsPrank takes it (can't seem to find her name, so no offense intended by not knowing your name lol. I'm sure someone readng this will alert me to her name in the comments). Charles Trippy was wisely hanging back working the camera...

First off, TheWillofDC (aka William Hyde) isn't me, lol. He updates who is climbing the top 100 chart each week and who is slipping down the ranks. Will also talks VERY FAST, ala Michael Buckley (he used to do the "What The Buck" entertainment show on YouTube). Will would provide weekly updates of what was happening on the then relatively much smaller platform of YouTube way back in the OG days when there was no massive channels like PewDiePie or MrBeast and content creators had comparatively tiny numbers of subscribers. He stopped actively posting these informative videos around 2012 or so and I had watched regularly but I guess he decided it was time to move on. I think he worked at Maker Studios for a bit, but I'm unsure. Still, I was always a numbers guy and enjoyed seeing how many subs people had gained or lost. This video was posted in June 2010 but took a look back to June 2008, back when YouTube was just really beginning to explode. Real blasts from t...
