As you know if you are a regular reader of this blog (what, you don't have something better to do with your time?) I like to check out Youtube videos. Videos of people in the Top 100 Most Subscribed and others that are a little further down the list and crazycrisco qualifies as the latter with a mere 170 subscribers (I'm number 170 - I like to get in on the ground floor). Crazycrisco is Chris who "lives right on the Ohio river" who has been posting videos on a semi-regular basis for about the last 4 months or so and I got a message to check out one of his videos (the one below) which I liked, so I checked out some more. Now I'm subbed. The video is about Chris' trip to VidCon 2011 held in Los Angeles at the end of July. I am always on the lookout for Youtubers who may not have quite made it yet and below are 50 Youtube channels that are on the cusp of breaking out in my opinion. If you come away with anything you should probably take a look at number seven, JckSparrow (Hilly Hindi's channel) where she does an excellent Harry Potter parody for Deathly Hallows Part 2. There are a number of channels devoted to makeup, game commentary etc., which I don't personally follow for the most part but I know they are very popular and fans are always looking to sub to the best of the up and coming ones in those genres. There are some that I have little or no interest in supporting (mostly the corporate accounts) but they are getting subscribers so they are listed too. Each of the 50 listed here are about to, or may already have hit the 100,000 subscriber mark but you may not be aware of them and each is linked back to their Youtube channels so you can subscribe to the ones you are interested in afte...

I was screwing around on Twitter and saw a tweet by Ray William Johnson (he's @RayWJ ) who said that he just watched the following video by Jason Kertson and Ray was impressed. So I thought I would take a look for myself: Young dude has quite the voice! He's singing You Can't Do That by the Beatles. The video was posted over a year ago and he's posted a bunch more songs to his sacrifyce4 Youtube channel. Below you will find Kertson doing Heart Shaped Box by Nirvana. If you liked what you heard, you can subscribe to his channel at the link above. He has uploaded 23 videos so far and Kertson's got a distinctive voice. Someone you might want to keep an eye on.

One of the cool things about Youtube is that you can stumble across a channel or a person who you have had no idea was on the website at all. There are TONS of people who are having an impact musically and artistically and getting lots of subscribers just by doing their own thing. One is lights a Canadian musician who recently completed a tour (called the "Are We There Yeti") and captured a lot of footage which she has uploaded to Youtube. Take a look: I always like seeing people on Youtube who are still at the point before betime fame finds them and in the video you see Lights interacting with some of her fans (like that part where she sneaks up on some people waiting outside and surprises one girl). Really an interesting video. She is finding some success as she goes along, and a couple of her music videos got into the rotation on Much Music (sort of like Canada'a MTV). Here's another group of Youtubers who you may not know about, but probably should keep an eye on. Most have less than 50,000 subscribers, although some have 70K or so. Like many people on Youtube, I'm always looking for new music and this is a group of talented musicians. There are tons more that also deserve to be featured and I'll get to the all I promise. Well, maybe not all at once though. Kate Laura McGill Kate, known as katem3 on YouTube does her own songs as well as some covers. Just about everyone knows who the most subscribed youtuber is (nigahiga if you don't know), but who are the fastest climbing youtubers that you might not know about? This is just a list of those youtubers who are generating tons of subs and who have subscriber bases that are below the level that would show up in any Top 100 lists. Some of the fastest climbing channels are actually in the non-English YouTube market while others are in the music section and other popular newer channels are in the always popular video game arena.
