Using Adblocker? You'll Get The Big Ol' Stinkeye From Youtube

Image
If you use Adblocker to remove advertising from your video feed you watch on YouTube, the platform might just pull the rug out from under you, just stomp it's feet and go home. Or maybe it won't load on your computer, phone or whatever device used to view content. There's long been something of a push and pull between the YouTube user and the platform when it comes to the ads served up for the free patronage you as a viewer has enjoyed. For most, its almost like a love-hate relationship. Everyone loves the ad revenue but can barely tolerate seeing all the ads. Here's a video from one YouTube content creator, DeepHumor , who raises some concerns with what he sees YouTube rolling out as they strive to combat the pickle of user retention vs keeping or increasing ad revenue. DeepHumor is a longtime content creator having been uploading to YouTube for the last 7 years. He has generated 125,000 subscribers and posted 925 videos. He's put in the work, so his concerns n...

Wall Street Journal Claims Ray William Johnson Makes "Over A Million Dollars A Year"

Image
Recently, the Wall Street Journal published an article (by Emily Glazer) called Who Is RayWJ? YouTube's Top Star . In the article, RWJ is described as "a foul-mouthed performer working on his own to carve out a very lucrative business". Ray? Foul mouthed? The article goes on to say that he makes about a million dollars a year from various Youtube channels, selling t-shirts and all the other stuff he has available. According to the what Ray said to the WSJ in an exchange of emails (because he refuses to do in-person interviews) is that Youtube is "a hobby". Well Ray, we all have hobbies, but not to many that pay a cool $1,000,000 per year. Now I obviously don't have access to what Ray William Johnson makes just from Youtube but there are websites that are kind of accurate in projecting what those who are making money actually make. Personally, I don't care what Ray makes and I don't think it really is my business, but there are others who are d...

New YouTube Partnership With Only 17 Subs, Wait, What?!

Image
Just found out that this brand new YouTube channel named Jackinum has been accepted into the YouTube Partnership Program. The channel currently has a grand total of 17 subscribers and 2 videos posted onto the channel. I took a look at the videos posted and it looks like so far he has posted just a couple, one of which is a gaming video and the first is him telling everyone that the channel is now in the Partnership Program. I've never seen another channel that had been accepted so quickly with next to no videos and such a low number of subscribers. Jack mentions he had applied for partnership on a different channel but had been declined but this one had been accepted fairly quickly. He says he had adsense enabled on his other account. Also, there's an annotation on the video about some troll site telling their visitors to thumbs down the video. I don't know what site he's talking about, but it's not Bradshaw's Blog. No nefarious activity here. I'm just ...

If Ray William Johnson Can Make $2,000 A Day On Youtube Why Can't I?

Image
According to the website myu2b.com , it looks like Ray William Johnson could be making as much as $2,000 each day from his Youtube channel. Really? 2K per day? Actually the numbers used to calculate what Ray "potentially" makes each day are imprecise. Don't get me wrong, Ray is probably making a great living these days through his main channel, but is he really making as much as $730,000 a year ($2,000 x 365 days equals 730K) just by posting videos onto Youtube? I don't know. Ray knows, and Youtube probably knows, and Ray's accountant and the taxman, too I guess. But how does the website myu2b.com come up with that figure? According to the website and what I've read elsewhere, the figure is based pretty much entirely on 2 factors - traffic to his channel and an average clickthrough rate on the ads. That is where the fuzzy math comes in. The daily traffic (views) is a relatively precise measurement, but the imprecision is the clickthrough rate. Anyone wh...

Partners Project: Shira Lazar Interviews Cenk Uygur Of The Young Turks

One of the channels that I have been following recently is the Partners Project with Shira Lazar. She interviews some of the top Youtube Partners and gets some of their back stories and how they became top performers of the Youtube and online community. In this recent video, Shira talks with Cenk Uygur of The Young Turks which is the biggest online news program in the world. I am personally subscribed to The Young Turks who cover everything from politics to sports to the latest in the entertainment world. Their political news is the channel's bread and butter, told with a refreshing honesty. They will not shy away from pointing out the hypocrisy and downright lies that those in the world of politics will try to foist upon an unsuspecting public. But they also are willing to discuss the funny and absurd stories that bubble up on the Internet. You can follow both the Partners Project and The Young Turks on Youtube by subscribing at the links above. You can also follow The You...

Anne Spade Dropped From Google-YouTube Partnership For Clicking Her Own Ads

This is kinda sad. Ann Spade got dropped from her YouTube partnership for invalid clicking of the ads on her channel. She was searching for computer stuff and only found it on her YouTube channel and clicked it. Now it looks like Google dropped her. That is a big no-no. This is one of those stories you hate to hear about. Ann seems like a really nice person and I've enjoyed her videos to date and I hope this doesn't stop her from continuing to upload because she is talented and just an interesting person. But, I know that you do not want to be clicking on your own ads because there is the possiblity of Google discovering this activity and it has happened to others in the past outside of Youtube - this is the most prominent youtuber I've run across who has lost their account. So take this as a word of warning - you will lose your Google privileges if you violate the terms and conditions of your agreement.

Article Out Says 10 YouTube Stars Making $100,000 A Year

Image
There's an article out stating that in all likelihood, at least 10 youtubers are raking in a minimum of $100,000 a year. Sounds sweet right? Below is the list of 10 YouTube Stars and their estimated yearly income from being in the YouTube Partnership Program. 10. Natalie Tran - communitychannel - $101,000 9. The Young Turks – The Young Turks - $112,000 8. Smosh – smosh - $113,000 7. Mediocre Films – MediocreFilms - $116,000 6. Shay Carl – Shaytards - $140,000 5. Fred – Fred - $146,000 4. Ryan Higa – nigahiga - $151,000 3. Philip DeFranco – sxephil - $181,000 2. The Annoying Orange – realannoyingorange - $288,000 1. Shane Dawson – shanedawsontv - $315,000 Now I just watched Phil DeFranco's latest Vloggity and he thinks there are several holes in the article. Like the fact that Ray William Johnson isn't even on the list. Ray's show, equals 3 gets about 25 million views a month and he's been getting new subscribers at an almost unbeliev...

UnOriginalTv Makes Partner On YouTube: Congrats Dude!

I always find it interesting when I see someone on YouTube make it into the partnership program. What that means is that the youtuber can submit their videos for revenue-sharing. Some youtubers don't bother to let their viewers know about getting into the program and I just stumbled across UnOriginalTV aka Corey Roehl while stalking another youtuber. According to Corey's channel, he has 3,083 subs (3,084 counting me) and 32K channel views. That's pretty good considering he has only uploaded 27 videos to Youtube since December 28th, 2009. He hasn't had a ga-zillion hits on any of his videos, but considently gets 2,000 to as much as 7-8,000 views, which is none-too-shaby. This is good news for those interested in becoming a Youtube partner. You don't have to get numbers like Shane Dawson or iJustine to make a little coin. The main thing though is that you need to have fun uploading videos and it seems to me that Corey does just that. I've only had a chance to...
