Alex Day ( nerimon on YouTube) has a little secret. He's been reading the book Twilight by author Stephenie Meyer. But he has been reading it to his audience on YouTube and pointing out the inconsistencies and poor writing style of the book/movie franchise beloved of the tween girls the world over. I haven't read the series or even bothered to go see the Twilight movies because both the movies as well as the books have been slammed so heavily by critics - by critics I mean those other than 13 year-old-girls with a blood lust for Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) or the abs of Taylor Lautner. Usually I frown when seeing someone defacing a book, but with the lack of literary merit displayed in this short video, I am willing to put aside my distaste I would usually reserve for Alex (or anyone else) tearing pages out of a book. Just checking in on YouTube and the latest video from Nerimon aka Alex Day pops into my inbox. First off he talks about dopamine and how if you are genetically predisposed to producing larger amount of the stuff you are predisposed to happiness. It is like "adrenaline-lite" as it is a precursor to adrenaline. And is used to help those with Parkinson's Disease which is possibly related to having low levels of dopamine in the brain. Here's one of the top English youtubers discussing a conference he attended. If you don't know him, he's Alex Day aka nerimon and he's the 7th most subscribed UK youtuber who makes some interesting videos. I have to admit that I did know about Carl Sagan's universal calendar concept as Alex explains that if you think of the timeline of the Universe for it's beginning to the present day in terms of a calendar year, the Earth itself just showed up around September and the entirety of the human race appeared in the last 15 minutes of December 31st. That shows the relative insignificance of mankind (and womankind). But I also like to think that maybe the emergence of the human race could signify and important epoch of the story of the Universe. But then again, maybe we're just a speed bump with little significance in the grand scheme of things. Something to think about (or not).
